Mariinsky Theatre’s The Nutcracker In 3D
Under the leadership of General and Artistic Director, Valery Gergiev – the renowned conductor – the Mariinsky Theatre was the first ballet company to embrace 3D technology with the screening of Giselle In 3D in cinemas across the world in 2011. This new release of the world’s first 3D Nutcracker marks the 120th anniversary year of the ballet since its premiere at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1892.
In partnership with EuroArts Music, who have more than thirty years of experience in creating spectacular arts events for the screen, The Nutcracker In 3D was filmed over three days in December 2011 – two live performances both with a full house, and a third run through without an audience. Filming dance in 3D helps to draw the audience right into the performance on stage, allowing them to become instantly involved with the characters and the unfolding story.
Mariinsky Theatre’s The Nutcracker In 3D is being distributed to cinemas worldwide by More2Screen, a London–based film distribution company specialising in world-class opera, ballet, music concerts, theatre and special event films for cinemas across the globe.
